TribalNet 8 Conference Highlights

Over 200 registered attendees from tribal nations all across the U.S. joined together with more than 40 top-notch speakers and 60+ key technology vendors at the 8th Annual TribalNet conference held at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.

"It's so nice every year to see so many old friends who have been here since the very first TribalNet where there were just a few of us joined together discussing common goals, challenges and successes," said Michael Day, TribalNet Founder and Advisory Boards Director during the opening welcome presentation. "Today we are here for the 8th annual TribalNet conference and what I notice more than anything is not only how many of our old friends are here, but also how many new faces I see." After eight years, the goal of this growing organization still remains the same as it was at the very first gathering- bringing technology and tribes together.

The conference kicked off with the meet and greet event: the TribalNet 8 slot tournament sponsored on behalf of Agilysys, where attendees networked with their peers and had a little fun testing their luck at winning some great prizes during the event.

During the conference week, attendees had the opportunity to choose from over 20 breakout sessions specific to the Native American technology industry including topics related to tribal government, casino/hospitality, economic development, health and general IT. Jeff Harrow of The Harrow Group, delivered what attendees said was an "exceptional keynote presentation" as he began the conference by taking attendees through a futuristic journey of changing technology.

In addition to the first-rate keynote presentation and breakout sessions, interactive workshops and roundtable sessions were mixed in the agenda as well. "We wanted to give attendees more of an opportunity to interact with each other and this was a great way to do that," said Shannon Bouschor, TribalNet Director and Coordinator. One attendee comments how she wholly enjoyed the roundtable discussions. "What I found most useful about this session is realizing that our tribe is not the only tribe that needs help in this area," she said. "The discussion helps to identify some solutions that what we need to focus on. I loved how questions I had were answered before I could even ask them."

The workshop sessions also allowed for interaction and useable information providing instant and long-lasting benefits for attendees. Alan Guibord, from The Advisory Council, delivered a workshop on effective communication, useful skills that every leader must have. The Project Management Institute, who spoke at the TribalNet 7- 2006 conference, was invited back by popular demand to deliver their workshop: Planning Success- the ace project manager also an important skill IT leaders must have.

On the last day of the conference, several TribalNet attendees took advantage of another new addition to the agenda this year- a free certification program that IBM was generous enough to offer as a value ad to conference attendees.

As part of the conference package, attendees were able to enjoy a two day exhibit which featured several key vendors crucial to the growing Native American industry. Attendees were able to visit one-on-one with the exhibitors to see first hand how they can benefit from the solutions that are available. Several prizes were given away on behalf of the exhibitors including cash prizes, Nintendo Wii, ipods, and even a laptop! The grand prize sponsored on behalf of Synergy Information Solutions and Rimrock Technologies a division of Cheyenne and Arapaho Enterprises was a 32" flat panel LCD HDTV and complete home theater system!

"We are already planning our 9th annual conference for 2008 which will be held September 29 - October 2 at the Radisson Fort McDowell Resort & Casino in Scottsdale, AZ," said Bouschor. "Our advisory board has some great ideas for this upcoming year and we hope to continue to put on another stellar event next fall."
